Let me try to understand why the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is installing tolling equipment on the I-405 north and south corridor.
1. Relieve congestion in the HOV
2. Increase revenue.
Ok – I have tried to understand their side. Now I ask WSDOT to try to understand my side.
This is why we should not have this tolling equipment anywhere on our public roads.
1. The car pool lane is no longer an option for low income / working families. This adds a burden to their already difficult attempt to make ends meet. This technology further marginalizes low income families.
2. People who have a tendency to get seizures will no longer be able to use the north south corridor without an increased risk of having a seizure. It is a known fact that intense blinking lights trigger seizures. If a person who is prone to seizures is driving and the flashing lights trigger a seizure, a car accident on the freeway is a likely result. These intense blinking lights can be seen from all lanes. This equipment further marginalizes people prone to seizures.

3, There is a growing group of people who experience extreme pain when exposed to electromagnetic fields. The concentrated ray of 90 mega hertz microwave radiation will make it impossible for EHS ( Electro hyper sensitive ) people to use the HOV lanes. This will further marginalize people who suffer from EHS ( an estimated 3-7 percent f the population).
In extreme cases, people have been known to black out if someone turns on a cell phone standing near them. This could cause terrible accidents on our major freeways. ​ The numbers of EHS people is expected to rise to 50 % of the population by the year 2020. Once this is a recognized disability, this equipment will have to be taken down, wasting taxpayers money.
EHS is formally recognized as a disability in several European nations, and bills are pending to have it covered in the parliaments of others.

5. France recently has passed a law prohibiting microwave radiation from wifi in daycare centers. Exposure to microwave radiation has been linked to single strand and double strand breaks in cellular DNA and other types of DNA damage, oxidative stress, several types of cancer, both male and female infertility, breakdown of the blood-brain barrier, making the brain more sensitive to chemical and infectious agents, lowered levels of nighttime melatonin; sleep disruption, diverse neuropsychiatric changes, including depression and changes in the electrical control of the heart including tachycardia (rapid heartbeat), arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death.

​6. It may be possible for a person prone to seizures to maneuver through the war zone that our freeway system has become. I find that if I pul the sun visor all the way down to eyelid level, I can avoid seeing the blinking lights, and not even try to use the carpool lanes. However, this also creates a risk because of the drastically reduced visibility.
Please scrap this idea and all of that toxic technology and just raise my taxes.
