Encouraged by the letters opposing the ARC | Letter

I am encouraged by the letters that oppose the obscene Prop. 1 ARC [Aquatics, Recreation and Community center] project.

I am encouraged by the letters that oppose the obscene Prop. 1 ARC [Aquatics, Recreation and Community center] project. The writers have eviscerated the proponents illogical purposes and reasons which claim the citizens demand a swimming pool plus extra goodies. Although the slick flyer I received in the mail detailed all the niceties proposed by the City Council, it perhaps forgot an indoor ice/roller rink is also a must for Kirklanders to enjoy during the long rainy months. I expect they will be on the list once the property tax rate is raised to 75 cents per $1,000.

But the purpose of this letter is to remind that the people behind the ARC formed a political action committee (PAC) to fund promotion for it. A PAC is usually associated with a political party or politician seeking office, not for a project which is supposed to be built for the public good in a non-partisan way. The need to form a PAC is a red flag warning to the citizens indicating just how desperate the promoters are to sway (buy) your vote. I suspect that the major donors to the PAC are contractors, suppliers, real estate brokers, politicians, and all others who will have a finger in the pie.

We must not give these people unfettered access to our tax dollars to spend for their dream world. Vote no on Prop. 1.
