Drivers need to let people cross in crosswalks | Letter

Twice a day I use a walk across Northeast 132nd Street. It is common for drivers not to stop to let me cross, or not to stop while I'm in the crosswalk. Some go so far as to speed up to quickly get by.

Twice a day I use a walk across Northeast 132nd Street. It is common for drivers not to stop to let me cross, or not to stop while I’m in the crosswalk. Some go so far as to speed up to quickly get by. My husband was nearly hit yesterday, even after making eye contact with the driver. I have contacted the city about this crosswalk, and their response was to tell police to drive by more often. Nothing has changed. I am asking drivers to please stop and let people cross the road in marked crosswalks. It will add a few seconds to your commute, but could save a life.
