Dismayed at spelling of Thoreau Elementary | LETTER

I am struggling to find the right words to express my dismay about the spelling of Henry David Thoreau Elementary on the first and third pages of the Reporter in the March 2 edition.

Perhaps you could have done a more thorough job when you were on site at the school. Most of the elementary schools in Lake Washington School District are named for American authors. That was their custom for many years.

How ironic that your article was an interview with an author. Thoreau Elementary has been around since early 60s or perhaps late 50s.

This reminds me of The Seattle Times and Journal American’s inability to spell Bridle Trails State Park correctly in the past. Somehow they disassociated bridles and trails and made it into Bridal Trails State Park. I don’t think very many brides are to be found on the park’s trails.

You are our local newspaper. You can do better.
