A poem for a Kirkland resident turning 90 years old | Letter

Kay Regan, formerly of Holmes Point Drive, is celebrating 90 years.

Kay Regan, formerly of Holmes Point Drive, is celebrating 90 years. She is currently a resident of Aegis Living in Totem Lake and several family members will be there to celebrate. Her favorite son-in-law wrote the following poem to commemorate the occasion.

K-K-K-Katie, Beautiful Katie!

“K-K-K-K-Katie, beautiful Katie, you’re the one & only girl that I adore,”

Was the thought that brought her handsome Airman husband home from war.

From Raymond High, by and by, she headed for Wazzu,

Where she met Joe, and who’s to know, that that wasn’t dream come true?

She was in a big band, saxophone in hand, she entertained one and all,

A swimmer too, through the water she flew, backstroke and Australian Crawl.

The marriage ensued, with romance imbued, five kids were soon to follow,

Kay had a task, in no glories to bask, just onward to their Lake City hollow.

The boys were all growin’ not a clue where they were goin’ and Becky just getting cuter

Cars flying off road, newspapers to load, when will she find a suitor?

But Kay kept plugging and politics were bugging to move her up in the world,

For office she ran, someone misworked the plan, but her Republican flag stayed unfurled.

So off she went, on missions Hell bent, to Republican National Conventions,

As a Washington rep, she kept them in step, which was always her fervent intention.

When Clan Regan was grown, and from the nest they’d flown, Kay said, “We need some more!”

And in came ’The Fosters’ and some Hmong ‘losters’ seeking solace from the Asian war.

Kay and Joe were well known ‘round Kirkland, their home, and Seattle and Olympia too

Their circle of friends, from mountains to glens, gives life meaning and value, that’s true!

Kay’s newsletter “Friends of the Family” began only as a personal note,

But its circulation, across the Nation, spread love and hope and sometimes a guide for our vote!

Now Joe’s gone ahead, to set up a shed, in Heaven for them both to abide,

While Kay is still here, spreading her cheer, and welcoming great grands with much pride.

So it’s 90 wonderful years this…, the family is certainly rejoicing,

Happy birthday Kay! This is your day and our best wishes we hereby are voicing!
