Laurie Simon, CEO and Founder of Ombrella Inc. in Kirkland, traveled to Washington, D.C. to receive the prestigious Small Business Association’s National 2011 Woman in Business Champion Award at the SBA’s annual gala on May 20.
Recently honored locally with the SBA Washington State and Region 10 award on April 21 at Seattle’s Museum of Flight, Simon is “honored by the SBA’s recognition of my passion, philosophy and strategic efforts in creating opportunities for women within the technology arena.”
She topped finalists nationwide to win the national award, whose recipients are individuals who have dedicated their personal and professional skills to supporting women-owned businesses and increasing business opportunities for women through advocacy and volunteer efforts.
A dynamic and successful business leader and proponent for positive change for women business owners across the country, Simon understands the current economic climate and works tirelessly to create opportunities through technology and policy initiatives.
Nationally recognized as an advocate for women business enterprise, Simon is significantly involved in numerous state and national organizations that support women business enterprises such as: Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), Women’s Presidents Organization (WPO) and Women in Technology International (WITI).
She is quadruple certified as a women business enterprise through California Public Utility Commission Supplier Clearinghouse (CPUC), National Women Business Owner Corporation (NWBOC), State of Washington OMWBE and the Women Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).
