Kirkland businesses recognized for recycling

Nine Kirkland businesses have been recognized by King County’s annual “Recycle More. It’s Easy to Do.” campaign as “Best Workplaces for Recycling and Waste Reduction.” Seventy-five businesses, including restaurants, manufacturers, city governments and a wide variety of others demonstrated fulfillment of the criteria and provided individual “profiles” about how successes were achieved.

The 2010 Kirkland honorees are: Allyis, Chameleon Technologies, Inc., ECO Cartridge Store, Google, Simplicity Decor, Blade Gallery, CHOICE Insurance, LLC, Evergreen Healthcare and Honda of Kirkland.

Seven of the nine Kirkland businesses recognized as “Best Workplaces” are also participants in the City of Kirkland’s Green Business Program. In 2007, the city launched a program to recognize the efforts of existing “green” businesses and to encourage businesses to get “green.” Qualified businesses are listed on the Kirkland Green Business Web page where they are encouraged to provide a promotional article about their “green” practices and services. Businesses also receive a core program logo in the form of a window cling, electronic logo files that can be used for corporate printed materials, and an award letter.

In addition to the “Kirkland Green Business” core logo, eligible businesses can obtain logos for seven categories: waste reduction/recycling, water conservation, transportation/commute trip reduction, pollution prevention, green building, energy efficiency and use of green power.
