Northwest University Shutout in league opener | College men’s soccer

Warner Pacific’s defense proved to be too tough as the Knights shut out Northwest University, 2-0, on Friday during the league opener for the two teams.
After a scoreless first half, Warner Pacific broke through the scoring ice in the 56th minute when Mario Guizar scored off an assist by Esquivel. Five minutes later in the 63rd minute, it was Esquivel this time scoring after taking a pass from teammate Johannes Reiber.
The Eagles would keep on pressing. Elijah Gordon’s shot at the 70:49 mark would be saved by White as would Brendon Wheeler’s shot on goal in the 79’. Branson Corwin’s shot off Elijah Gordon’s corner kick at 84:44 would again be stopped as the game would end with the Knights on top of the scoreboard.
Warner Pacific (3-3, 1-0 CCC) outshot NU 13-8, but the Eagles had seven shots on goal to the Knights’ five. Daniel Christenson made three saves in goal for the Eagles while Josh White saved seven for WPC earning the shutout.
