Construction begins on Kirkland Pump Station and sewer upgrade

In order to protect public health and the environment, the King County Wastewater Division is upgrading the Kirkland Pump Station and the sewers that lead in and out of the pump station to provide the required capacity to accommodate recent and projected growth in Kirkland.

The contractor will be moving temporary construction offices into the staging area that has been established on Park Lane, between Main Street and Third Street.

In addition to trailers/offices, this staging area will be used to store materials, equipment and provide room to support construction activities associated with the pump station upgrade.

The overall schedule includes upgrades to the pump station lasting through summer 2014.

The forcemain work planned for Kirkland Avenue will last approximately three months and will be scheduled in spring 2012.

To learn more about the project, the public is invited to a community meeting from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Peter Kirk Community Center, 352 Kirkland Ave., Kirkland.

What to expect

• Closure of Park Lane between Main Street and Third Street for construction staging.• Activity typical of a construction site: work crews, truck hauling, construction materials, and heavy machinery.

• Work hours scheduled between 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.

• Possible traffic delays, noise, and dust associated with construction activities.
