Lake Washington blanks Juanita in rivalry baseball game

Buchanan homers in top of the seventh inning.

With an overflow crowd on hand at Lee Johnson Field last Friday night, Lake Washington’s Michael Buchanan blasted a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to lead the Kangs to a 2-0 baseball victory over rival Juanita.

Buchanan earned the victory from the mound by firing a complete-game two-hitter with five strikeouts. Jayson Schroeder fanned 12 for Juanita.

LW had three hits in the tight game with two from Jesus Vizcarra, including a double. Juanita’s two hits came from Adam Petter (double) and Taylor Peterson.

SOFTBALL

Mackenzie Burke amassed three hits, two RBIs and earned the win in Juanita’s 14-3 softball victory over Interlake last Friday.

Burke had two doubles and was joined on the hit list by Abbie Reynolds (two hits, including a homer, and four RBIs), Megan Murray (triple), Kaci Gordon (double) and Jordan Schroeder (two hits, including a double, and one RBI).

For Lake Washington, Antonia Norman got the win with eight strikeouts and had two hits in the Kangs’ 12-10 triumph over Bellevue last Friday.

Also for the Kangs, Haley Brown had four hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs; Hailey Menssen had three hits and two RBIs; and LW got two hits each from Abigail Mills, Anastasia Kotsakis and Maliena Carelli.
