Finn Hill Middle School (FHMS) eighth graders glimpsed their possible futures by visiting the University of Washington (UW) campus on April 14.

Groups of approximately 15-25 students toured with a teacher-chaperone who attended UW or who knows what it takes to enter a four-year university. Students visited the Suzallo Library, the Husky Union Building (HUB), Drumheller Fountain, the Quad, Husky Stadium, Denny Hall, and Red Square.

In the next two weeks, these students will review the field trip and take virtual tours of other educational institutions. They will also learn about housing costs, food costs, and other expected costs for attending college.

Students in all district middle schools begin work on their “High School & Beyond Plan,” a state graduation requirement, in eighth grade. This process is designed to help students think about their future goals and how to accomplish those goals.

The work includes exploring interests and career options, developing a course plan for high school, exploring opportunities to develop skills, and learning about postsecondary education as it relates to their goals.
