Allyis makes difference in Kirkland community

In 2009, 61 percent of Allyis employees participated in at least one corporate citizenship activity. During Allyis’ second annual United Way Giving Campaign in October, employees and Allyis donated more than $17,000 with 25 percent more employees participating in 2009 than the previous year.

Allyis employees sponsored five Childhaven graduates who entered public kindergarten in September. They provided them with a new outfit, a backpack, school supplies, a toy, and a grocery card for their family. In December, employees bought 88 gifts for Childhaven children, which completed holiday wish lists for 40 Childhaven kids. The employee gifts totaled an estimated $2,000 worth of new clothing and toys.

In May, 64 Allyis participants participated in the Beat the Bridge Run for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Northwest. Team Allyis raised $5,600 in donations. Also in 2009, the company’s annual ping pong and pool tournament that takes place in the office raised $1,300 to help fight juvenile diabetes.

An Allyis team participated in the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society’s Big Climb charity event.

For Northwest Harvest, Allyis collected $700 worth of food, which gave nutritious meals to 3,178 families. Allyis employees also volunteered at Northwest Harvest and bagged, sealed, and boxed 11,800 pounds of corn on the cob, enough to feed 5,900 families.

On United Way of King County’s Day of Caring, six employees volunteered at Mountains to Sound’s native tree and shrub nursery, where the plants are used to replant salmon-bearing creeks and local parks.

Allyis donated $2,600 to Hopelink in honor of clients during the holidays and made donations to Kiva in honor of out-of-state and country clients.

Allyis is also dedicated to protecting the planet through greener choices in purchasing and by making recycling and composting easy for employees at the office. In 2009, paper use at the company was reduced by 53 percent. The office had a 15 percent increase in composting and recycling aluminum and plastic, based on employee population. Allyis recycled 75 percent of the garbage at our summer company picnic.

Allyis greened 80 percent of its office supplies in 2009 and created a “gently used” office supplies area. The company also switched to online paystubs in 2009, reducing the need to print and deliver approximately 5,000 paystubs each year. Allyis began stocking its kitchen with fair-trade, shade-grown coffee from a local company (Pura Vida). Employees participated in Bike-to-Work month.

Allyis received King County’s “Best Workplaces for Recycling” award for the second year in a row.
