Rebel volleyball team finishes regular season with back-to-back wins

The Juanita High School volleyball team beat Liberty 3-1 Wednesday behind a strong defensive effort.

The Rebels jumped out to a big two-game lead with a 25-17 and 25-19 result. But the Patriots Liberated the sweep from Juanita with a slim 25-23 victory during the third game.

The Rebels crushed the revolt during the fourth game, 25-14, to send the Patriots back to Renton with a loss.

Juanita had four players in double figures in digs including Ashley Manzoni (27), Dana Michels (15), Alona Chenish (11) and Vicky Neam (10). Chenish also led the offense by collecting 42 assists. Brittany Webster (18) and Neam (12) led the offensive effort in kills.

The Rebels pounded Bellevue Monday, 3-0, behind Webster’s five aces, 13 kills and 18 digs. Chenish finished with 32 assists, while Manzoni led the team on defense with 21 digs.

The win against the Totems evens Juanita’s in-league record at 6-6. The Rebels finished third in league play this year behind Mercer Island and league champion Mount Si. All the 3A KingCo teams will play Friday and Saturday at Sammamish High School during the league tournament.
