Lake Washington singles player Brett Pearson and the Kang brother doubles team of Matthew and John Wehrle qualified for the 3A Sea-King district tennis tournament in May.

At the recent 3A KingCo tournament, Pearson defeated Bellevue’s Cameron Yang, 6-2, 6-4, to place first, and the Wehrles took third.

Pearson defeated opponents from Bellevue (6-2, 6-0), Interlake (6-1, 6-2) and Mercer Island (6-1, 6-3) to reach the finals.

The Wehrles defeated opponents from Interlake (6-1, 6-1) and Mercer Island (6-0, 6-0) before losing to Mercer Island’s Jack Mattox/Andrew Kaelin, 5-7, 7-5, 7-5, in the semifinals. They then defeated a Mercer Island team to take third; the score wasn’t available at press time.

Lake Washington took third in the team standings, behind first-place Bellevue and runner-up Mercer Island.
