Juanita’s Breakaway girls soccer team wins U17 state title

The Lake Washington Youth Soccer Association Juanita girls’ soccer team, Breakaway, won the 2016 State Recreational Cup for the under 17 girls’ division on Dec. 11.
The team beat the Northshore Youth Soccer Association’s Kickin’ Kangaroos, 5-1, during the state final at the Starfire sports complex in Tukwila. The team defeated the Marysville Panthers during the semifinal morning game, 4-0.
Breakaway players attend Juanita, Lake Washington and Cedar Park Christian High Schools. The team is coached by Warren Ladiges and assistant coaches Joel Enstrom and Tony Schultz. Team members include Kheisha Reyes, Laura Prows, Tali Izhaky, Kirsten Casper, Anna Densmore, Molly Ladiges, Amirah Imran, Emily Jensen, Astrid Bowden, Georgina Enciso, Jayla Kidd, Amelia Brady, Cassie Lee, Emma Enstrom, Sammy Schultz, Clara Pfundt and Heather Gengo.
This was the team’s first state title and six of the girls have been playing together since the first grade. The girls made it to the state tournament during the two previous seasons and have won the District II championship three years in a row, including a DII title win against the Kangaroos, 4-0, on Nov. 19 at Eastlake High School.
Breakaway finished 2016 with a record of 13-0-1, as the team scored 75 goals with only giving up eight goals.
