Inferno takes U14 girls soccer state title

The Lake Washington Youth Soccer Association U14 girls soccer team, the Inferno, won the state title with a 1-0 victory against the Kalama Tsunami on Saturday at the Starfire complex in Tukwila.
The team is lead by many Kirkland residents, who helped the squad complete its third consecutive perfect season with a 9-0 record during the 2016 season. It also finished the regular season with 40 goals scored and only two against.
The Inferno won the District 2 title by defeating the Strikers at Eastlake High School by score of 1-0 on Nov. 20 to move on to the state tournament.
During the state quarter finals, the Inferno defeated the Tenino Cobras, 4-2, on Dec. 10 at Starfire.
Team members include: Emily Godfrey, Annika Sturgeon, Courtney Cross, Kayrene Walker, Lilly Bean, Madison Johnson, Nicole Chan, Rosa Smith, Sara DeAnda, Kaelyn Billington, Merel Adriaanse, Ximena Juárez de la Torre, Isabel Hines, Jillian Hines, Alicia Garcia, Angelina Maletta, Anika Puhl and Samantha Molina, with coaches Keith Godfrey and Jim Johnson.
