The girls volleyball team of Providence Classical Christian School in Kirkland capped a perfect regular season with a 3-0 win over Orcas Island Christian on Oct. 28, then went on to take second place at the district playoffs in Mount Vernon on Oct 31.
First-game jitters, combined with excellent play from Highland Christian School, brought Providence their first loss of the season in the first match of the playoff games. Refocusing, the Highlanders went on to take the next three games for the match. Providence then took Grace Academy 3-0, which brought them to the championship match against a solid Mount Vernon Christian squad—a team that dominated Providence at last year’s districts.
The games went back and forth, with Providence taking the second and fourth sets 25-23 and 26-24. Mount Vernon prevailed in the last set, giving Providence a second place finish and the highest seed for a Providence volleyball team advancing to the tri-district playoffs.
“I’m proud that we didn’t overlook any team and kept our goal of [competing at] state in mind,” said senior co-captain Hailey Ferguson.
The Highlanders now advance to the tri-district playoffs at Evergreen Lutheran High School this Saturday in Des Moines.
“We’re excited…,” said Head coach John Ferguson. “We had a good season.”
