Kloba’s positive leadership right for Kirkland | Letter

As someone who has followed local elections for my entire adult life and is an advocate for the protection of civil discourse, I have been disappointed to read some of the recent press releases from City Council candidates that have been posted in the Reporter.
The City Council deals with a lot of complex issues that shouldn’t be simplified down to a few bullets with the aim of scoring political points. That’s what they do in Washington D.C. We shouldn’t tolerate it in Kirkland.
Shelley Kloba has been a positive role model, volunteer and leader in our community for many years. She has been an advocate for education and parks, and is now bringing what in my view is a fresh outlook and approach to the city council. As a neighborhood association board member I have truly appreciated her ability to listen, learn and respond to the needs of our community.
I believe you can tell a lot about a candidate by seeing who supports them and contributes to their campaign. Shelley’s list of endorsements and contributions includes neighborhood leaders, advocates, and elected officials from all over Kirkland. This is a testament to her ability to build coalitions and earn trust. We need her positive leadership on the city council.
