In the race for Position No. 2 on Kirkland City Council, I am confident that Shelley Kloba is the right choice.
As a transportation engineer and local business owner, I know the importance of investing in our transportation system. Shelley understands this too, and has been a strong supporter of a variety of infrastructure improvements, recognizing that there is no “silver bullet” in terms of solving our traffic congestion issues. She has advocated for continued investment in the city’s Intelligent Transportation System that uses “smarter” signal systems to adjust to demand and that can be remotely controlled by the city’s traffic engineer. She also is working to provide improved transit solutions in Kirkland, considering ways to make buses run faster and more reliably so we can support the growth our city and region is experiencing. Finally, she is passionate about creating more options for people who walk and ride a bike, especially for our children, so they have safe routes to walk or bike to school.
In my work as a board member of the Finn Hill Neighborhood Alliance, I have gotten to know Shelley very well. She understands the value of neighborhood associations and how they are able to bring the collective input of residents to the city council. She is very responsive and is always willing to meet with residents so that they can share their concerns. She takes the time to learn about issues and consider the variety of ways the City might assist. One example is her support for funding to expand Juanita Heights Park to preserve some of the last remaining forested lands above Juanita Village. I truly appreciate her approachable style, and the energy and enthusiasm she brings to improving our community and continuing Kirkland’s tradition of being a livable and vibrant City.
I am proud to cast my vote for Shelley Kloba, and I encourage you to do so as well.
Jon Pascal, Kirkland
