Paving process starts Sept. 21 for 132nd Avenue in Kirkland

The road in front of Lake Washington Institute of Technology will be a lot smoother this fall. For a few weeks, however, it’ll be a little rough and slow. That’s because Kirkland’s contractor begins in the next two weeks repaving 132nd Avenue Northeast, from Northeast 113th Street to Northeast 120th Street. Weather could alter the schedule.
The work begins with ‘lowering iron’—removing manhole covers to protect them from the pre-surfacing asphalt grinding, which removes the old pavement’s top three inches.
132nd Avenue Northeast is the last of seven street sections Kirkland’s contractor is repaving this construction season. The contractor has already paved sections of Kingsgate’s Northeast 144th and 143rd Street,  Finn Hill’s Northeast 141st Street, Houghton’s Seventh Avenue South, Bridle Trails’ Northeast 60th Street, North Rose Hill’s 124th Avenue Northeast and Highlands’ 116th Avenue Northeast.
Northeast 85th Street, from 114th Avenue Northeast to 132nd Avenue Northeast, is the last arterial Kirkland will pave this year. That work, performed under a separate contract, begins later this month or early in October.
