Juanita holds on against Liberty | Prep softball

The Juanita High School girls softball team defeated Liberty, 5-4, on Friday thanks to an early lead and good starting pitching.

The Rebels began the game with a 3-1 lead during the first inning. Juanita then added a run during the third and one in the fourth to build a 5-2 lead. The Patriots got back within one run during their final at-bat but failed to tie the game.

Madi Hedlund earned the victory from the pitching circle by throwing six innings, giving up no earned runs and striking out eight batters. Hedlund was also 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles, while Brynn Radke has a triple.

The two teams will meet again today at 4:30 p.m. in Kirkland.
