Juanita junior Mason McDaniel finishes second in state at Mat Classic | Prep wrestling

Juanita junior Mason McDaniel finished second in state in wrestling Saturday in the 170-pound weight class during the Mat Classic held in the Tacoma Dome.

McDaniel scored two victories on Friday to qualify for the state semifinal match, where he defeated Stephan Babcock of Shadle Park, 10-7.

McDaniel faced Killian Page of Marysville-Pilchuck for the state title. During the final, neither wrestler was able to gain the upper hand but Page held out for a 7-4 victory.

McDaniel’s second place finish is one of the best in school history.
