Charles Hitz, an identity theft specialist with Legalshield, will be presenting a seminar on how to “Protect Your Identity” from 7-9 p.m. on Jan. 29 at the Kingsgate Library.

This seminar will encourage people to make identity protection part of their regular routine and reduce their risk of identity theft happening to themselves, to their families, and to businesses.

“Knowing how to protect your personal information can reduce the risk of identity theft,” Hitz said. “I want to help everyone learn how to safeguard their information, spot potential signs of trouble early, and minimize the damage identity theft can cause.”

Identity theft happens when someone steals another person’s personal information and uses it without their permission. It’s a serious and growing crime that can disrupt] finances, credit history and reputation, and it takes a lot of time, money and patience to resolve.

Identity protection is a 21st century practice that can become habit. It requires thinking about personal information as a valuable commodity and treating it with care.
