Illg’s letter on McBride is fact free | Letter

Fat-free is healthy. But fact-free, like Duane Illg’s letter about Joan McBride, is harmful to voters. Let’s check Illg’s claims about McBride, a 48th District Democrat running for State Representative.
Claim: “Only 25 percent were in favor of Joan McBride running.” Fact: In the August primary, she won 69 percent of the vote.
Claim: “She wants to run because it is for the most part unopposed.” First, she has an opponent. Second, Joan initially entered to oppose Senate Majority Leader Rodney Tom (before Tom withdrew), so she’s no shrinking violet.
Illg also resorts to sexist ranting: “The only house she is qualified to run for is her own house.”
Fact: McBride is a seasoned public servant, with 16 years as Kirkland’s mayor and on its city council.
More baseless bile: “As a representative she would be a puppet.” Personal insults are the surest sign of an empty, desperate argument.
So here’s a fact-filled quote about Joan McBride. “Annexation, AAA credit ratings, clean audits, and the passage of the park and road maintenance levies are among her biggest highlights as mayor.” Who says so? Why, the Kirkland Reporter (Feb. 7, 2013).
Oh, Illg did get one thing right in his letter. “I leave it up to you, the voters to decide.” Duane, we will. We’re sending Joan McBride to work for us in Olympia.
