The five-time State Champion Lake Washington High School (LWHS) dance team will host the first dance competition of the season in Kirkland at noon on Nov. 8.

This competition will host performances from 15 dance teams – each team fighting for a qualifying score to compete at the district championships. The dance competition will be attended by fifteen 2A, 3A and 4A regional high school teams and will include about 20 routines in the categories of Pom, Military, Kick, Hip Hop, Show and Dance.

Most sports programs span just a few months between the first practice and the state championships but dance teams prepare for 11 months for their state championship. Under the leadership of coaches Lindsey Beck and Jeanne Wehr, the girls begin their season in May. The season culminates at the State Championship in Yakima at the end of March, having dedicated 400 hours.

The event will take place in the high school gymnasium.

Tickets fro the event are $7 for adults and $5 for students with ASB card. Concessions and refreshments will be available for sale at the event with all proceeds benefiting the LWHS dance team program.

Lake Washington High School is located at 12033 NE 80th St. in Kirkland.
