Northwest University shuts out Warner Pacific | College men’s soccer

Northwest University’s Odason Pelogi broke a scoreless tie during the 67th minute to help lift the Eagles to a 2-0 Cascade Conference win over Warner Pacific Tuesday. With the win Northwest University (NU) improves to 9-2 overall and 5-2 in CCC play which puts them in a tie for second place.

The first half proved to be a defensive battle between the teams as they combined for 11 shots and none would find the mark.

Warner Pacific came out pressing right at the start of the second half with four shots, three shots on goal in the first five minutes of play with NU goalkeeper, Daniel Christenson of Bothell saving all three shots on goal. Pelogi then put Northwest up 1-0 as he went one-on-one with the WPC goalkeeper and scoring what proved to be the game winner.

The Eagles got the clincher at the 75:08 mark when freshman Branson Corwin took a cross from Taylor Young through the box and put it passed the Knight’s keeper from six-yards out. Mario Guizar had a shot on goal with seven seconds remaining, but NU keeper Christenson made his eight save of the game to preserve the shutout.

Warner Pacific (4-4-3, 3-3-1 CCC) outshot Northwest (9-2, 5-2 CCC) 17-9, with 11 shots in the second half, but Northwest U made good the 4 shots they had in the second period putting two in for scores. NU had 6 corner kicks to WPC’s 1. Daniel Christenson earns the shutout for Northwest with eight saves, seven coming during the second half.

The Eagles return home to Kirkland and will host Evergreen in another key CCC match-up on Saturday at 3 p.m.
