Northwest University’s senior captain, Taylor Young, scored the golden goal six minutes into overtime as the Eagles defeated Oregon Tech 3-2, during their Cascade Conference opener to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Young’s goal came off a crossing pass from teammate and Bothell resident Kyle Zimmerman as he placed it to the left side of the goal and Young finished from three-yards out. It was Young’s fifth goal in as many games.

Todd Siedenburg and Brendon Wheeler teamed up for the first NU goal 8:15 into the game as Siedenburg too Wheeler’s pass across the box and scored just inside the 18-yard mark.

Grant Alexander tied the score at 1-1 in the 27th minute as he scored off a rebound from two-yards out. Five Eagle shots would not find the mark as the teams headed into halftime still tied at one-goal each.

Oregon Tech took a 2-1 lead at the 52:15 mark as Luiz Valdez headed the ball in from GeRysand Cabanilla’s assist. NU would have four shots to tie, but the fifth attempt in the 61st minute by Jacob Weaver would find the back of the net as he dribbled passed an OIT defender and put his shot passed the Owl goalkeeper.

The teams would trade shots for 30 minutes without success as the defenses stiffened and would not allow a game winner in regulation.

In the overtime period, it looked as though NU would win it early as Kyle Zimmerman, Odason Pelogi both had shots in the first two minutes off corner kicks, but Taylor Young got the game winner 96 minutes into the game as the Eagles would open CCC play with a victory.

The Eagles will return to Kirkland, but will be on the road again this Saturday when they travel to Portland to play Concordia at 1 p.m.
