Nytec hosts reveal of Kirkland Fish Frolic sculptures

The final reveal of all Kirkland Fish Frolic sculptures reeled in more than 200 people June 20 at Nytec Product Innovation Center in Kirkland. The event included a full exhibition and gala auction of the sculptures. Proceeds from the auction were shared by the decorating artist and partner nonprofits.

The project was sponsored by 4Culture, the Kirkland Cultural Arts Commission, the city of Kirkland, the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce, The Heathman Hotel, The Woodmark Hotel, Nytec and Steve’s Custom Cars.

The Kirkland Fish Frolic along the Lake is a public art project that featured twenty-five pieces of art, all created from a base fish sculpture. These sculptures are created by artist Don Rothwell. Various artists were then commissioned to decorate the sculptures in their style.

Bids on the aquatic creations will be taken at Kirkland Summerfest 2014, with the final auction taking place on Sept. 25.

Spawned at the Kirkland Summerfest 2013, the Kirkland Fish Frolic displayed five commissioned fish sculptures as the start of this fabulous year-long celebration. All the works of art will be displayed at community festivals and by select sponsors.

The Fish Frolic is headed by Kathy Feek, a Kirkland art consultant and coordinator, who serves as Art Chair of Summerfest, and is supported by key volunteers and the volunteer Summerfest planning committee.

Feek said that she would like to thank Nytec for their support and hosting the event.
