More than honey to show at Northlake Unitarian Universalist Church in Kirkland

The Northlake Unitarian Universalist Church will host the movie “More than honey” at 7 p.m. on June 20 as a part of its Meaningful Movies series.

“More than honey” is about the relationship between humankind and honeybees, about nature and about our future. Honeybees show us that too much stability is just as unhealthy as unlimited growth; that crises and disasters are triggering evolution; and that solutions sometime come from completely unexpected directions.

Honey bees appeared on Earth 60 million years before humankind, are responsible for more than 80 percent of plant species being pollinated, and are indispensable to our survival. Along with other pollinating animals—birds, butterflies, bats, beetles and more—honeybees are vital to our delicate ecosystem. But over the past 15 years, due to “Colony Collapse Disorder,” colonies of bees have been decimated throughout the world. Should we blame pesticides or even the medications used to combat them? Parasites? Viruses? Traveling stress? Or a combination of all? Join us for this outstanding film and a discussion of these fascinating pollinators with a couple of the folks who interact with them on a day-to-day basis. Learn steps to take today to save them.
