Totem Lake’s no-turn-on-red sign serves a purpose | Letter

This is in response to two recent letters concerning the red light tickets by the EvergreenHealth Medical Center.
First, Ms. Jane Peterson, the Totem Lake Transit center isn’t a rarely used bus station. I’m not sure what time of day you were there, but there are buses leaving and arriving there every five minutes. A lot of the people using the transportation center are seeking services at the hospital or surrounding area.
Second, have you ever thought why there are not very many accidents there? Have you ever pondered the idea of why there is a no-turn-on-red sign there?
Why don’t you go ride a bus leaving from the transit center?
Then maybe you might understand why it is there! Buses leaving from the center are prompted by a green light! Therefore, if you were to turn on a red light, and a bus was leaving there at the same time, there would be a horrific accident! There have been plenty of accidents before at that intersection, that’s why there is this rule.
Next time you are at this intersection open your eyes and look around at all the things happening around you. And be thankful that you only got a ticket for not obeying this law, and that you didn’t lose your life or cause someone else to lose theirs.
