Are Kirkland Parks and Community Services members just now reading the Comprehensive Plan about Totem Lake?

It says in policy TL-15.3: “The city should acquire Totem Lake. To ensure that the quality of Totem Lake and its buffers are preserved through regular maintenance, the city should seek to acquire and manage this resource.”

Goal TL-15: “Enhance the natural condition and function of Totem Lake.” The Reporter’s recent article regarding planning for a Totem Lake Park is an encouragement for all the Planning commissioners who have worked on the Totem Lake neighborhood since 2000.

As one of the past chairs of the Totem Lake task force back then and a past commissioner for 10 years, many of us encouraged this language to grasp this natural resource for the betterment of the city.

It is great to see the other departments finally getting on board as did the Planning Commission and Kirkland City Council when they reconfirmed these policies and updated the Comprehensive Plan in 2011. Hopefully not too much has been lost in the past decade while these policies sat.
