Disagree with Kirkland officials over rail removal | Letter

I live in Kirkland and disagree with our officials in removing the rails. It was my understanding they were to preserve the corridor for light rail as the primary use and add a trail for local use.

Rail is still the most viable form of transportation today. If leaders would get together with some forward thinking by incorporating a walking trail along the rail, that would be good for all. How many more lanes will we keep adding to the already congested Interstate 405 each time we find it just cannot handle all the traffic? Rail is the answer, not cars. We might not know it but there will be a day rail will be necessary again far more than it is being used today!

It really does not make sense the mayor says we have a good multi-use plan for the corridor with the plan being to remove the rails and put the walking path on the rail right of way. Let’s get something right the first time, plans should be long-term – 50-plus years, not just the next 10-20.
