Northwest U women’s soccer named CCC Team of the Week

The Northwest University women’s soccer team has been named the “Team of the Week” for Nov. 28 through Dec. 4, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.

Fresh off of an opening round 2-0 win against No. 8 ranked Biola, Northwest was unranked, yet unfazed at the NAIA Women’s Soccer Championships final advancing to the semifinals. In a second round match the Eagles held the high powered offense of No. 25 Ottawa University (Kan.) in check for 110 minutes until prevailing on PK’s 4-2. NU’s goalkeeper Lauren Hellum secured the win with two big saves against Ottawa.

In the quarterfinals NU overcame a weather delay, as well as another ranked opponent as they jumped all over No. 17 ranked Reinhardt University of Waleska, Georgia scoring three goals in the first half en route to the 4-1 victory. Sophomore Jubilee Zevenbergen scored one goal and had two assists in the game sending the Eagles to the semifinals. Zevenbergen was also named to the All-Tournament team.

Northwest (14-7-3, 6-3-2 CCC) advanced to the NAIA National Tournament after securing the league’s 2nd automatic qualification finishing in second place on the CCC post season tournament after coming in as the No. 4 seed.
