Northwest University’s Katie Michkiosky scored the golden goal in the 109th minute of the second overtime to lift the Eagles to a 2-1 non-conference win over host UC Merced this afternoon.

Playing in the 97 degree heat, it was Michkiosky’s second goal of the game. She had put NU into the lead in the 42nd minute with her score for the 1-0 score. UC Merced would come back to tie the game in the 62nd minute of the second half to send the game into overtime.

Kat Sanchez earned the win in goal for Northwest U (2-2) making 6 saves for the game. Shots for the game were even at 14 for each team while NU had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Ashley Bennett scored the lone goal for UC Merced (0-1), while Gabby Vinco took the loss in goal for the Bobcats making 7 saves.

“I’m extremely proud of the girls today,” said Northwest U head coach, Bryan Chud in a press release. “We had to dig deep after playing 4 games in 6 days in 95 plus degree heat and we did what we had to do to grind out the result today.”
