LW’s Gockel wins district javelin competition

Lake Washington’s Brady Gockel set a personal record in winning the 3A District 2 javelin competition on May 16 at the Southwest Athletic Complex in West Seattle.

He threw a 178-09 to help lead the Kang boys to the team title. He is ranked second in the 3A state standings.

Gockel, who also won KingCo with a 177-02 the week before, qualifies for state with a host of other Kirkland athletes on May 24-26 at Mount Tahoma High in Tacoma.

Last year, the state competitor’s high mark was 164-1 and he won KingCo with a 161-11.
