Juanita rides hot start to win over Redmond; Lake Washington falls to Liberty

The Juanita High girls basketball team picked up a big conference victory over Redmond, 58-42, on Wednesday at the Juanita Fieldhouse.

The win pulled the Rebels (5-3 KingCo, 9-5) within one game of Redmond in the loss column for the third seed in the conference standings, and evened the season series with the Mustangs (5-2, 8-5).

Rebel senior and McDonald’s All-American nominee Tea Adams scored 27 points, including 18 points in the first half. Adams also finished with six boards and five steals, and was 11-for-11 from the free-throw line.

Junior Hannah Kleppe had 10 points and sophomore post Alexis Intong had eight points and nine rebounds.

Next, Juanita is scheduled to play Sammamish at 7 p.m. on Friday in Bellevue.

Liberty 66, Lake Washington 47

After a tight first period, Liberty outscored the Kangs 20-11 in the second quarter and rolled to a conference victory over Lake Washington on Wednesday in Renton.

The Patriots (2-5, 5-8) led by two points after the first eight minutes but had stretched their advantage to 55-40 headed to the fourth quarter.

Lake Washington (1-6, 2-11) was without Tori Bivens, Alexandra Mueller and Megan McCarthy for the game, and lost for the fourth consecutive game.

Junior Molly Behrends hit five 3-pointers in the game and led Lake Washington with 17 points. Senior guard Sydney Olson had 15 points.

Next, Lake Washington is set to play Interlake at 7 p.m. on Friday in Bellevue.
