Eight athletes compete at rowing nationals

Five athletes with ties to Kirkland helped three boats from the Sammamish Rowing Association (SRA) finish in the top 10 of the Youth Nationals regatta June 10-14 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Eight athletes with Kirkland ties competed for the SRA during nationals.

Kirkland resident and Lake Washington High School graduate Dani Ferringo, along with International Community School student Gabby Bull, helped power the women's youth lightweight eight to fifth in the nation with a time of 7:12.80. Kirklander and International Community School junior Jared Cardiel, along with International Community School sophomore Kevin Saxby competed in the men's youth pair and finished sixth in the nation with a time of 7:56.54.

Lake Washington High School graduate Becky Kinchen finished seventh in the nation with partner Avery Hamann. The tandem finished the race in a time of 8:32.53.

The Sammamish men's lightweight eight was seventh overall during nationals with a time of 6:14.83. Kirkland resident Andy Altig was among the crew.

The women's youth varsity eight also competed at nationals, advancing through the heats and semi's to finish in the C-Finals. International Community School student Erin Antono and Kirkland resident Allie Struzyna were among the rowers.
