For the fifth year members of the Juantia High School swim team braved the waters of Lake Washington to swim across it in their annual pre-season swim. The 1.5-mile event, which benefits Children's Hospital, had 15 swimmers this year.

Head coach Dawn Maurer said the swim this year was harder than usual because of bad weather conditions.

"The waves and wind made it a tough swim," she said. In years past only members of the girls swim team took part in the race. This year three members from the Rebels boys team came out, in what Maurer hopes will become a new tradition.

The Rebels will host their first home swim meet on Sept. 21 against Interlake, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
