Prop. 2 will ensure funding for Kirkland parks | Letter

October 11, 2012 · Updated 2:26 PM

A yes vote on Proposition 2 for parks is the right way to ensure sustained funding for the city’s extraordinary parks system. In my leadership role of a financial services company I know firsthand the importance of business protecting its capital assets and investing in its future. The impacts of the economic downturn have resulted in a significant drop in maintenance and capital improvements of our parks through budget cuts and reduction of the Real Estate Excise Tax.

As residents we have an opportunity to approve a levy to restore parks services and invest in the parks system, including improving the safety of our children swimming at beaches and opening up the 5.75 Cross Kirkland Corridor Trail to bicyclists and pedestrians.

We have an opportunity to improve our parks, develop new parks and save natural areas in underserved neighborhoods. It is our shared responsibility to act now and pass Proposition No. 2 for city parks maintenance, restoration, and enhancement.

Margaret Meister,  Kirkland
