True story … A friend stopped by while visiting Bellevue from Ferndale. She drove through downtown Kirkland before stopping at my house on her way home and commented that downtown looked terrible. There were no flowers throughout town! Over the years I have always thought the flower pots added a lot as to what Kirkland strives to be. We’ve just taken for granted that the flowers would be there year after year. If money can be raised for a few hours of fun on the Fourth of July, maybe we can raise enough money to have 365 days of color in the downtown pots. I don’t see that this year’s planting added much to attract visitors to walk through our town. If you have missed the flowers this summer and feel the same way, please let the City of Kirkland and Kirkland Downtown Association know. Oh, and by the way, my wife, Cindy, has been doing the flowers the last few years so I guess my thoughts are prejudiced. We live in, and care about Kirkland.
