Carrie Wood | Insensitive headline?

Finn Hill resident Cami Keyes brought to my attention a headline in last week’s Reporter that offended her. The headline was: “There goes the neighborhood?” The story addressed potential changes that annexation may bring about to the City of Kirkland.

Cami said the headline suggests that the inclusion of annexation residents on city boards would negatively impact the neighborhood.

We did not intend for the headline to be negative by any means. In fact, the headline refers to the literal division of the annexed neighborhoods that the city is considering to re-divide.

As a community paper, it is important for us to help foster this spirit of cooperation between annexation area residents and current city residents. We value our readership in the Finn Hill, North Juanita and Kingsgate neighborhoods as much as we do in Kirkland. We will be more considerate to these sensitive issues going forward.

We would also like to hear what annexed area residents have to say about upcoming changes. Please e-mail me at: cwood@kirklandreporter.com or call me at 425-822-9166, ext. 5050. I look forward to hearing from you!
