Two chances for Kirkland kids to hunt for eggs this weekend

With Easter on Sunday, kids will have two opportunities to hunt for eggs this weekend. The Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt is one of the longest running public events in the city and the Lake Washington United Methodist Church Easter Egg Hunt includes some games and other fun events. Many churches have Easter services. For more information on those events, call the individual churches.

Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt

The 42nd annual Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt will take place this Sunday, as about 27,000 chocolate eggs will be scattered around Peter Kirk Park in downtown Kirkland. The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. and take all of about five minutes but participants are strongly urged to arrive early. Kids ages 1-12 are invited to participate. The hunt is free to the public and presented by the Kiwanis Club of Kirkland.

“It is truly amazing to watch the kids completely sweep the field clean. A team of landscape workers couldn’t do a better job. All the smiles and happy faces are a true blessing to the Kiwanis club members,” said Kiwanis Club of Kirkland President Kat Cannon.

As with tradition, different areas of the park are designated for specific age groups. The playground area is for ages 1-4, the baseball field’s outfield grass is for ages 5-7 and the west side of QFC for ages 8-12.

Kirkland Middle School Builders Club and some local high school key club kids will dress in Bunny and Duck costumes to entertain the littlest egg hunters.

Construction at Parkplace will not impact the hunt but will curtail some traditional parking areas. Participants are encouraged to park in the Kirkland Library garage to the southwest of the park. Free parking can also be found at Kirkland City Hall.
