The Kirkland area was blanketed with snow Thursday evening and into Friday morning, making the morning commute a challenge. Weather forecasters are predicting a quick melt with rain predicted for the afternoon and highs in the upper 30s to low 40s today. But current road conditions have forced some schools in the area to close.

The Lake Washington School District (LWSD) announced around 5:30 a.m. that all district facilities are closed today, including all schools in Kirkland. A message on the LWSD website reads: “All schools are closed today, Friday, December 9, due to continued snow and expected freezing rain. All programs, activities and building use are cancelled. There is no extended day care.”

The Lake Washington Institute of Technology is open regular hours today but the child care center is closed.

Kirkland Seventh Day Adventist is also closed today.

The Reporter was unable to confirm if Kirkland’s Providence Classical Christian School had made an announced on whether the school will be closed today.
