Parks and community services administrative staff relocate to Kirkland City Hall

The City of Kirkland’s Parks and Community Services administrative staff has begun its relocation from the 505 Market Street building to Kirkland City Hall.

The move began Dec. 27, and Parks and Community Services Director Lynn Zwaagstra said it would likely take until the end of next week to be fully completed. “There are many folks on vacation at this time of year, so we expect to more fully move into the new space and settle in the first week in January,” she said.

As part of the remodel of city hall, the parks and community services administrative staff, recreation division administrative staff, human services, special events and the Green Kirkland Partnership will all be located in the lower level.

“We wanted to offer all our city services in a more central location,” Deputy City Manager Tracey Dunlap said. “When the department relocated from city hall to the 505 Market Street location in 2002, the move was supposed to be temporary. Now, with the remodel of city hall, they are coming back to a brand new space, and it will be much easier for our customers to get one-stop service.”

The city plans to sell the 505 Market Street property, with a portion of the proceeds going to fund an emergency shelter for women and children.

While the parks and community services administrative staff are making the move, the other parks department staff, including those in the North Kirkland Community Center, Peter Kirk Community Center and Parks Maintenance Center, will remain in their current locations.
