Man fires back during Safeway robbery

Police are investigating what led up to the assault and robbery and are looking to identify the outstanding suspects.

Kirkland police responded to reports of gunshots in the Rose Hill Safeway parking lot on Feb. 18, at about 8 p.m.

There, they found a male victim in his 20s who was robbed and assaulted by two men he had planned to meet at the grocery store location in the 12500 block of Northeast 85th Street. When he arrived, the suspects allegedly stole his money and his cell phone. In response, the victim fired multiple rounds from his .45 caliber handgun, hitting the suspect’s vehicle — a dark-colored sedan. The firearm was found at the scene.

The robbery victim had serious injuries to his face and head and was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation remains open. The Kirkland police are looking into what led up to the assault and robbery and are looking to identify the outstanding suspects.
