LWSD sees administrative changes for 2017-18 school year

Now that school is now in session, there are many new faces in Lake Washington School District, including new principals. Openings resulted from retirements or administrators accepting positions in other districts.

Here are the changes in Kirkland

Principal changes for 2017-18:

Juanita High School

Kelly Clapp, most recently principal at Redmond Middle School, will serve as principal at Juanita High School. Clapp replaces Gary Moed, who retired in June.

International Community School/Community School

Margaret Kinney, most recently an associate principal at Redmond High School, will serve as principal at International Community School/Community School. Kinney replaces Gregory Moncada who accepted a position overseas.

Lakeview Elementary School

Heather Frazier, most recently principal at Sandburg Elementary/Discovery Community School, will serve as principal at Lakeview Elementary. Frazier replaces Steven Thatcher who is now with Issaquah School District.

Sandburg Elementary/Discovery Community School

Lori Pierce has been selected as principal of Sandburg Elementary/Discovery Community School. Pierce comes from Snohomish School District. She replaces Heather Frazier, who is now principal at Lakeview Elementary.

Associate Principal changes for 2017-18:

Juanita High School

Joe Gorder will serve as an associate principal at Juanita. Gorder completed his administrative internship this past year. He has served as a consulting teacher for the district’s New Teacher Support Program since 2007. Gorder replaces Gloria Heier, who retired in June.

Christine McMillan will also serve as an associate principal at Juanita this year. McMillan completed her administrative internship this past year. She comes from Redmond High School, where she taught English for the past 15 years. She replaces Tim Hupperten who is now with Auburn School District.

Central office changes for 2017-18:

Dr. Jon Holmen has been named deputy superintendent. Holmen replaces Janene Fogard, who retired in June. He will oversee operational services (communications, human resources and technology operations) as well as students and school support services.

Barbara Posthumus has been named associate superintendent, business and support services.

Mike VanOrden has been named associate superintendent, student academic success services. VanOrden will oversee teaching and learning, special services and intervention services.

Dr. Jen Rose has been named director, teaching and learning. Rose comes from Bellevue School District, where she served as principal at International School since 2010. She replaces VanOrden.

Beth Pendergrass has been named director, communications and community engagement. She comes from Rio Rancho Public Schools in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, where she served as public information officer. Pendergrass replaces Kathryn Reith who left the district.
