Lake Washington High School’s Loyalty Club has wrapped up its Holiday Baskets food drive event during December.

Students collected $5,700 and an estimated 15,000 pounds of food during the five-week event. The group took a large part of the donation down to the Rainier Valley Food Bank on Dec. 18 and Hopelink picked up the rest on Dec. 19.

“All members of the club worked very hard to make it such a success,” said Lake Washington High School advisor Lindsay Roger. “Extra kudos go out to the event chairs, Jessica Truong, Sami Wilmot and Katie Melanson, and Loyalty’s President Manon Debuire.”

Red Apple, PCC, the downtown Kirkland QFC and the Totem Lake QFC also helped with the food drive.

“This event would never have been possible if they didn’t allow LW students to stand outside their businesses,” said Roger. “Way to go, LW and the entire community of Kirkland.”
