Kirkland to participate in National Night Out Against Crime

The Kirkland Police and Fire departments are encouraging Kirkland neighborhoods to participate in the 34th annual National Night Out Against Crime on Aug. 1.

National Night Out is a nationwide campaign aimed at involving communities in crime and drug prevention awareness. Kirkland residents are encouraged to get together with neighbors and friends to plan neighborhood events. Activities that neighborhoods may want to host include cookouts, flashlight walks, community conversations or contests.

Neighborhood groups can register their event with the City of Kirkland by filling out the neighborhood block party permit application, available online at www.kirklandwa.gov. Block party fees will be waived for National Night Out events held on Aug. 1.

Members of the Kirkland City Council and first responders from the police and fire departments will be attending registered community events between 6 and 9 p.m.

Visit the National Night Out website, natw.org, for history and more information about the event.
