Kirkland police respond to bomb threat in Rosehill neighborhood

Male suspect held female employee hostage until arrest.

A man claiming to have a bomb inside a Kirkland 76 gas station is no longer a threat after Kirkland police were able to successfully arrest him Sunday.

Police received a call from the man, who is in his early 20s, at 4:30 p.m. April 15. He was at the gas station located at 11848 NE 85th St and was holding a female employee hostage, according to a news release.

Once officers were on scene, one officer was able to convince the man to step outside and give himself up.

The man had no device, bomb or otherwise, on him and he was quickly arrested. The woman was uninjured but understandably “shaken from the incident,” police said.

The Bellevue Police Bomb Squad also responded to the 76 Station to clear the area. Police state it is unknown at this point what the suspect’s motive was in making the threats.
