Groundbreaking ceremony at Juanita set for June 6

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. on June 6 at Juanita High School, 10601 N.E. 132nd St., in Kirkland.

This is one of five ceremonies this spring and the only one in Kirkland.

The projects are included in the 2016 bond and are needed to accommodate rapidly growing enrollment, and to address aging facilities, a Lake Washington School District (LWSD) press release states.

LWSD is the fastest-growing district in King County, according to the release, and with enrollment of 29,008, the third-largest district in the state.

Projects on this bond measure are part of the recommendations made by a Long-Range Facilities Planning Task Force. The task force’s work addresses the district’s growing enrollment and aging schools through 2029-30. To construct all the projects recommended by the task force, the district has proposed additional bonds for consideration in 2018, 2022 and 2026.
